I love a good swamp ass special
Do you miss the fretboard markers when you play? Cheers
I personally don’t, but get why some would. It has the dots on the side.
Opening with blink on a jazzmaster lol
Really great playing and sounds excellent! I played one of these for the first time today and plan to pick it up next week. Thanks for posting this review. 👍
Thanks! Let me know how you like it after you get yours…they are great guitars.
@@EJBGuitar I picked up Eastman’s limited edition SB55-TV Pomona Blonde guitar yesterday and love it! Lightweight, great neck, great tone, nice variety via the volume and tone controls. I also own an Eastman SB59/V. Both guitars are keepers. 👍
@eddaymusic Sweet!
@@EJBGuitar I really appreciate your video. You helped me with my purchase decision. I have subscribed. Keep it up :)
@@eddaymusic thanks - appreciate it. Hope you dig that guitar!
I have been waiting for years for Guild to release an S-100 with an ebony fingerboard, and I missed out. Sure would love to obtain one of those!
Fine guitar for the money, got a sunburst hss.
Currently priced at $199.99
An arm contour and this would be perfect
Eric, don't apologize for the way you like your guitar or for what you don't prefer with one, bro. It's yours. Nice video.
Thanks…appreciate it.
It’s not based on a Baretta. It came before the Baretta. The Baretta is based on IT. Eddie’s 5150 Kramer is this for the most part. The slanted pickup came later. This is actually closer to the 5150 than the Baretta. The original 5150 body was based on a Pacer body but the neck was based on Frankie. The headstock was based on Eddie’s Ibanez. In truth, Eddie’s 5150 Kramer was neither Pacer nor Baretta.
Did you add the Bigsby yourself or get some special version? I love that color but only see a standard stopbar in white and Bigsby in black.
I put the Bigsby on using a Vibramate SG adapter.
The headstock is not true to the original and that is enough to kill it for me. I have owned two of the original night swans and they were very nice guitars. Quite a bit different than the other models which is why I liked it. I have had plenty of Kramers from back in the day. My favorite was always the arch top Stagemaster..
I use Vanson roller saddle tunamatic bridges they work well with the Bigsby. I've used these on Electromatic and 6120TM guitars.
Such a beautiful guitar!
Is it smaller than the vintage tele?
Not that I can tell. No smaller than the other Teles I currently have or have had.
@@EJBGuitar I have a vintage tele and it is very heavy and I think maybe the modern version will lighter😂
@@Brucewyne-jh8ff They seem to vary in weight, so if you can sort by weight or test-play before buying would be the best thing.
Nice video, killer tones bro🤘🤘
Thank you - appreciate it.
Am I missing something here? I’ve just watched a video about putting a Bigsby on an SG - you talked about it all the way through and you played the SG all the way through without *once* ever actually *using* the Bigsby? Did you put it on for looks or to counteract neck dive? Both valid reasons.
Nah, I’m not a huge trem user…little subtle stuff. I don’t do like rockabilly on a Bigsby! This is a video to basically just highlight the Towner parts and what it would look like using those parts. Luckily none of my SGs have neckdive (I look for that when shopping for them) so I didn’t do it for that…though that could surely help for any that do have it. I don’t deny that I think they look cool as hell though so looks definitely played a part in it. Sorry you came looking for a bunch of Bigsby dive bomb action!
@@EJBGuitar Lol not dive bomb action, just some action 😊 All good
I was tempted by the reduced price so I bought the Tour SS--larger body, single cutaway--otherwise exactly the same appointments. Extremely well built and looks great -----but oh dear those pickups are not to my liking at all. Far too harsh and hot for my taste which is a real shame. I'm not into swapping out pickups especially on a semi hollow so I won't be keeping it.
The pickups are one of the main reasons I like mine…nothing like any of the other semi-hollows that I have. They’re great with fuzz too IMO.
@@EJBGuitar To each his own. I have four semi hollows--the D'Angelico, a Gibson 335 Dot Reissue, a Guild Starfire and a Tanglewood TSB59. The Tanglewood is the cheapest by a long way but it is my favourite. To my ears it's even more PAF-[ike than the Gibson. I prefer low output, underwound pickups and I would never go near a fuzz. Either clean or just on the edge of breakup via a Zendrive is my "style"-----assuming I have one!
@kingstumble That’s what great about guitar/music…everybody has what they like!
What strings on your pacer?
NYXL 10/46 on everything for me.
AWESOME!!!🌍💯
Thank you! I appreciate it.
6128T-89. Sweet tones
Thanks! Appreciate it.
Hey, great video, thanks. I got a Kiesel recently, and I love it but the tuners that came with it suck! They get stuck and are hard to turn often. Tried lubing the nut and still no dice. Sounds like maybe these will do the trick!
Yeah Kiesel tuners seem to be hit or miss. These are (IMO) THE best tuners on the market…they ain’t cheap, but I feel worth every penny. Perfect for Kiesel’s existing holes too in my experience.
What’s the name of the second song you were playing? I can’t think but i love that one.
Are you talking about “Big Log” by Robert Plant?
@@EJBGuitar yes that’s it!! Thank you brother!
@jarodreddig63 no problem. Probably not super accurate…was playing from memory!
@@EJBGuitar sounded pretty close to me.I figured some of it out a bit ago just by noodling around but gunna get on Ultimate Guitar tabs and check it out.
I wish I could get a deal like that...
This is the worst sounding guitar ive ever played Horribly tinny and causes a headache I cant see how everyone thinks it sounds good
Maybe there is something wrong with yours? Or maybe it’s what you’re playing it through. It’s not a guitar I would use for much other than “80s era” rock…the pickup is good for that, but not for everything. Or maybe it just doesn’t fit your ear and/or playing.
@@EJBGuitar After letting the stings settle for a day it definitely sounds better, didn't think that made a difference but with this guitar it made a big difference Playing through a Marshall code 50 I'm going to try removing the capacitor and will eventually get a new pickup and volume control Other than that it's one of the best guitars I've played, it really does play as good as some $1000 guitars I also lowered the pickup, that helped
Awesome. Ordering a white one. Nice job on the Metallica riff.
Thanks! Appreciate it.
oh and i love the britney fox in the beginning!😀
great video. im sold. was looking for something like my 64 firebird, and i think this is it. your video format is excellent. glad i found you. cheers!
Thank you so much…appreciate it!
Crazy bout a Mercury
Great review! I have one and am very very happy with it. The sounds you get out of it are great and it kicks in some surprising chimes every now and then. You will have to upkeep it bit BUT i already have solid tank guitars. I always pull this one out to practice. Its got a great feel. Its a guitar dudes guitar. If you already have more than 3 work horses pull the trigger. Lots of compliments in my live gigs on it. Its FUN.
Thanks - appreciate it!
excellent demo ty
Thanks for checking it out!
Are the tuners modern or vintage size? Thanks🙏
Modern size on all the G&L’s I’ve had.
Hi! Nice guitar I love the looks. If you don’t really use the tremolo arm, how is tuning stability? I consider doing the same thing for mine but just to correct neck dive and for the looks. Felt the same with the vibrola.
For the way I use the Bigsby, the tuning is fine…I just use it for some light “shimmery” type vibrato! If you don’t use it at all then obviously the tuning stability is great! 😉 The only trem I will really go nuts with is one of my locking Floyd Rose trems.
Thanks! Did it help to put some weight on the body? Have you noticed a difference for neck dive?
Against the stop bar* I have the same guitar as you
@trepaniermathieu Mine didn’t have neck dive to begin with, but the weight difference (at least to me) wasn’t very much…the Bigsby itself doesn’t weight all that much and the Towner stuff is VERY lightweight. (I think I mentioned the weights of each part in the video if I remember correctly). If you do have some neck dive, it can only help though right?!?
You are right. Thanks for your input and video! Cheers 🍻
Sounds good! Which fuzz tone are you using?
Thanks! Honestly don’t remember…whatever it was, it was one of the Kemper Fuzz effects built in!
Do you find any neck instability due to the softer okoume wood used in the neck?
Not at all.
Great review. Does the placement of the pickup selector disturb you while playing on the neck pickup? Thanks
Doesn’t bother me. Doesn’t seem any worse than any other Strat type layout to me.
I rebuilt the special with all stainless steel parts,, replaced bridge pu with Duncan JB and pot . It is the baddest ass guitar in every way
Love the coil split mod. Great idea. I'm doing exactly the same when I pick up one.
I can’t remember if the stock pickups are 4-conductor or not…think they are but not sure. If you’re replacing them then no worries.
the space in the control cavity is because the more expensive model has a Sustainiac system fitted, and they all have the same body :o)
I just picked one up from G C ordered it online since they were back ordered on the deluxe model they sold it as a regular poloara not knowing it was a S 100 limited and your correct got it cheaper then a new epiphone SG and this Guild looks alot better as well
Really nice sounds. Acoustic strumming sounds are great. Any tips on how you eq-ed it ?
TBH, I don’t remember exactly. Most of it was just as simple as adding a little high end and taking out a little bass to try and give it that acoustic “zing”…the electronics inside it do some of the work to give it the sounds.
I have always looked past the Gibson LP Jr but this thing has me thinking. I see one now on reverb for $1050 what a steal for an instrument you can definitely hand down in the family with case etc. Great review.
Yeah, these are great for the price.
the tone and playing in the middle position! bravo! Love it
Thanks. Appreciate it.
I have one of those. Phenomenal guitar. I love my old gibson's but honestly the eastman is a better Instrument. Gibson if you're listening you need to do better. Even at one third of the price of a gibson the eastman's are better period. I'm 75 years old been playing professionally for over 50 years. I have 3 eastmans. They are all my go to guitars.
Nice review. I haven't seen many people playing these on youtube so i enjoyed this. I'm a smaller guy so I like Mustangs quite a bit, and I've owned one of these American Perfomer Mustangs (in yellow) for a few years. I did pay full price for my mine, but I agree with you that I wouldn't want it as my only guitar either. I get what you're saying about your initial feelings about the pickups. I kind of felt that too, and for a while, i turned it into a hot-rodded mustang by installing a Dimazio Tone-Zone S (bridge) and a Pro-track (neck). That fattened up the sound and dramatically improved the sustain... but I eventually started to miss the original Yosemite pickups so I switched back to them. Something about the thin, blank-slate sound and lack of sustain somehow keeps me honest.
Thanks! Sounds like yours has had a bit of a journey! Interesting that you went back to the stock pickups. It definitely has a unique sound and character that has a place in my collection.
The bigsby looks great! How’s the tuning stability when you use it?
Pretty dang good! It’s not like a Floyd Rose obviously, but I’m finding it to be plenty useful. I like it so much that I just put the same setup on my Pelham Blue SG. Properly cut nut, stretching new strings, and a little Big Bends Nut Sauce helps a ton…but the nut slots are the most crucial. All that said, I don’t use tremolo bars (vibrato bars?!?) a ton, so I may not be the best “test user” for a Bigsby, but like I said I find it to be great. The Towner tension bar helps a ton because you can dial in just the right amount of pressure over the bridge…that surely has something to do with the tuning stability that I am seeing.
I bought an S7 FM HSS last year, loved it so much I got an L7H. At that point, of course I had to complete the trifecta with a T7H just like yours (I already have two traditional Strats, Teles and Les Pauls so I have that sound covered). They are all great playing, great looking, great feeling guitars with excellent fit and finish. So far I haven't upgraded anything, just haven't felt the need. Sire necks are what sells me on them, they feel fantastic. I thought I would have to dull down the glossy fingerboard but it isn't sticky at all. The back is super fast and smooth. Sire puts really nice veneer tops on their guitars. It's veneer, why shouldn't it be? But what I've seen from Epiphone lately has been pretty weak, you have to get lucky to get nice figuring and contrast like that. Anyway, great review, thanks!
Thanks! Couldn’t agree more- Sire necks are wonderful. Excellent value is icing on the cake(s)!
your little window in the upper right shows the neck pickup on Viagra....poor limp fella in the bridge mode...
Sorry what riff is that at 8 minutes????
😂 it’s actually from one of my own original instrumentals…kind of become a joke at this point because I use it in EVERY gear video! I even made a short video explaining it: ua-cam.com/video/RCSMBFvJgaY/v-deo.htmlsi=ZmlJHVk1CEM4D-uf
Tad 60 perfect with my mando- big difference!
What is the point of this video! I expected to see the Bigsby demoed.
Just to show the Towner parts I used and how easy it is to install. Sorry it didn’t meet your expectations.
